Scholarship for 172 Students from Families of Leprosy Patients

Jakarta – Education is the right of every child, including hundreds of students from low-income families of leprosy patients in Sitanala village, Tangerang, Banten. Even living within various limitations, but the students still eager to continue learning.

In the same spirit, PT Pertamina (Persero) in collaboration with the Association of Disabled Leprosy Foundation / Yayasan Himpunan Penyandang Cacat Kusta (HPCK) through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program in education sector, to distribute scholarship for 172 students from low-income families of leprosy patients in the area from 2010 until 2015.

This scholarships awarded to 172 students consisting of 99 elementary school students (SD) grades 4 & 5 and 73 junior high school students (SMP) grades 7 & 8. The number of scholarships given to elementary students is Rp600,000/year for every student and for junior high school students is Rp900,000/year for every student. The total amount of Pertamina scholarship for 5 years to reach Rp. 1,378,800,000.

Ceremony of Pertamina's scholarship distribution directly received by the representative students, on Wednesday (27 / 4). Pertamina hopes this scholarship to ease the burden of families of leprosy patients and motivate students to not despair at the limitations it faces. In addition to scholarships for students from families of leprosy patients, Pertamina also has distributed scholarships to 36 achievers young man and woman of Madura worth Rp216 million and 100 Politeknik Negeri Padang students Rp300 million.

Not only to motivate students, Pertamina also support the improvement of the quality of education by participating in the construction of educational facilities such as Basic Science Laboratory at the University of Airlangga. Laying the first construction of laboratorium worth Rp3.2 billion is done directly by the President Director of Pertamina, Karen Agustiawan, Monday (25 / 4).

Previously, Pertamina also giving aid for construction of sports and science Laboratory Buildings of MIPA, University of Indonesia, sports building of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, sport building of Brawijaya University, the Hall of Polytechnic of Malang and pool facilities for the University of Malang. The total aid for development assistance for education facilities to reach Rp 60 billion.
